RUBY
HEIMPEL
Someone who looks over a portrait painter's shoulder does not see it. But someone who looks into the painter's eyes notices it immediately: Classical portrait painters look more at the picture they are painting than at the face they want to put on paper. Ruby Heimpel is quite different: she does exactly that — she looks at the face. Unceasingly. Without interruption. For a long time. Concentrated. While painting. And she only looks at her picture when the portrait is finished. Blind drawing, the real engagement with the sitter. Finally someone who truly looks.
This is how expressive, indeed unique portraits are created. Characterful and dignified, because the gaze serves the person, not the picture. Later colored with love of detail, yet the sketch remains a sketch and an unforgettable image of the person Ruby Heimpel portrays.
The Himmelreich collection of works by Ruby Heimpel is a commissioned project and a collection of personalities who may not always be immediately recognizable at first glance, but — once recognized — create a lasting impression and a genuine connection. Ruby Heimpel completed her Master of Arts at the University of the Arts in Berlin with a focus on stage design. The individual motifs are hand-signed one-off pieces.
