SANDRO
LIBRA
Dolceaqua. April 2023. 7 kilometers north of Ventimiglia. Between the narrow canyons of houses a door with a dusty window. Looked through and saw: incredible black-and-white images. Immediately thought of Ansel Adams, hands on the glass, unfortunately no one there, not even after loud knocking.
Fortunately there's the internet; two hours later in Ventimiglia I met Sandro Libra (71), in his studio. Nikon FM and Leica, nothing digital, all still analogue photography. Hands and feet; one speaks only German and English, the other only Italian and French. After two hours the Sandro-Libra-Himmelreich collection is ready. Nine photographs each from the themes trees, landscape and a door in Ventimiglia. Partly original hand prints, partly scans of the same. Hand-signed. By Sandro Libra, whom everyone should visit at Via Rome 3 in Ventimiglia. Afterwards to Dolceaqua, to the bridge painted by Monet and a little town with a beautiful historic centre.
